Oil on wood, 29 x 29 cm. 1995.

This is the first landscape Kolby ever painted. It was made during his first year at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo, and was part of that year's examen. The colours and the nature itself are greatly inspired by the Norwegian painter Lars Hertervig (1830 - 1902).

The composition is balanced by the enormous cloud that equals the mountain, and the rocks in the water down to the right copies the small clouds up to the left.

Kolby's professors did not like the work and gave him a low grade for the landscape, which they found "seen through historical glasses, and lacking any personal expression".
