Looking over a covering curtain, this self-portrait expresses a concentrated and intimate look. The artist sees the whole of the viewer, but the viewer only see the artist’s face. With an almost disturbed gaze, the artist looks at us, as in catching the spectator doing something prohibited. The tranquil colours leave the viewer to focus on Kolby’s look - and to feel observed.
